About

Who we are

Dunleer Tidy Towns was started in 1978 by Paddy McGrory from Beechwood Drive, Dunleer. It began in a small way by cleaning the streets with litter picking and planting some flowers, which was good as the town was very unkempt at the time. As time progressed, we started to enter the Tidy Towns National Competition and gain some momentum in the work that was going on at that time. We probably shied away from the process and the paperwork that had to be followed to obtain funding.

In the last 10 years, we have been searching out sources of government funding to help the town modernize in a faster way and update some of the black spots. Each year we do several fundraising events to gather funds to cover the day-to-day expenses of the Tidy Towns and to help fund 10% of the funding needed by us to take on projects during the year. All funds raised go to support Dunleer Tidy Towns in its endeavour to make Dunleer one of the best small towns in Ireland where people will be proud of their town and help them take pride in it.

Services

What we do offer

Cleanup

A community cleanup will improve the look of your neighborhood or park and inspire people to keep the space looking great. Hosting an event like above one is a wonderful way to celebrate this community achievement!

Volunteer

Volunteering is a rewarding experience that brings people of all ages together for a good cause. Get involved with a great organization like ours.

Community Garden

A community garden is a great way to bond with your community. Consider making a garden just for children, so they can learn about the process of gardening. It is a great educational opportunity.

Events and Festivals

We offer volunteer opportunities for large-scale public events. Such as upcoming Tea Party at Barmeath Castle on August 14th 2022.

Recycling Program

Starting a recycling program is a big task but a worthwhile one. When you recycle, those items can be turned into amazing things, like the flower boxes at corner & main station, made from recycled decking.

Donation Drive

Fundraising is a lifeline for our organisation. By supporting Dunleer Tidy Towns you are helping us make a difference. We would love to hear about your creative fundraising ideas! Your imagination is the limit.

CAMPAIGN

Think Before You Flush

Every day thousands of unsuitable items are flushed down the toilet instead of being put in the bin. This creates problems to the plumbing in our homes, our neighbor's homes, our wastewater network and our marine environment.
